Announcing an exciting Simply Shetland Madelinetosh Gudrun Johnston collaboration for Rhinebeck (or not)!

The Cloud Drift Cowl features a limited edition color, “Plivver”, in Madelinetosh Tosh Silk Cloud, dyed just for Simply Shetland and to perfectly match our main color shade of Spindrift in Old Gold.

The construction of Cloud Drift takes inspiration from Shetland hap shawls. The cowl is worked flat with yarn overs being made along one edge to create the shaping and to add a decorative element. The two ends of the cowl are then seamed together. Cloud Drift features mosaic knitting, a fun colorwork technique without stranding, all on a garter stitch background (another nod to traditional Shetland lace knitting).

When using shades close in value for the contrast colors, the simple mosaic design creates a gradient effect reminiscent of Sashiko patterns, highlighting the beauty of Shetland yarn held with a Japanese milled yarn.
